A Cottages of the Palm Beaches patient, Tyler B., expressed his internal struggle with drug addiction in an creative and therapeutic way through an original poem he wrote after a one-on-one counseling session with his counselor:

My Disease (by Tyler B.)

Darkened sorrow, fills this veil of sadness

Forsake tomorrow, and progress the madness

That haunts and hinders, the slightest progression

I'm the ultimate binger, in a horrid recession

Of all that's good, and righteous in life

For it replaces it all, with horror and strife

From the first Snakebite, through the euphoric wave

That dug its hooks in, and commenced the crave

That ravaged my soul, as I relinquished control

Forever scarred and damaged, trying to weather the toll

That broke me down, and damaged forever

Every ounce of my being, seeming destined to sever

A life dragged through hell, to cease being destructive

To sit stuck, still f**ked, still far from productive

'Cause it's a day and night struggle, just to cope with the shit

When you're in the endless darkness, of a bottomless pit

But there is hope, and a light, at the end of this tunnel

And you can halt your dissension, down the dope-fiend funnel

For the cure and the answer, to arrest your disease

Is to surrender your heart, and put your mind at ease

And attend every meeting, and to trust in the Lord

To carry you through, and be content when you're bored

For you have all the answers, all solutions and tactics

'Cause the most beautiful people, are recovering addicts

So rest assured knowing, the you're truly essential

So let's go out into the world, and release our potential.
